I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) a UC-Berkeley graduate, who has been working in the
field of mental health and addiction treatment for over 20 years. I spent a number of years in the early
HIV/AIDS epidemic working with patients and communities coping with this new disease. I also worked
for 5 years as the social work clinician at the world renowned Bothin Burn Center at St. Francis
Memorial Hospital, assisting patients in their recovery from severe trauma.
For the past 10 years, I have focused much of my work in the LGBTQQI community, and in the areas
of mental health and addiction treatment and recovery. In 2001, I was hired to create and direct the
Transgender Recovery Project at Walden House, the first residential treatment program targeting
transgender and genderqueer people in the United States. Over the next 5 years, I was able to work
intensively with hundreds of trans women, men, and genderqueer identified folks on healing from
transphobia, substance abuse, and trauma.
I am very excited at the opportunity to work with clients I feel passionate about. As a proud member of
both the trans and bisexual communities, I am very aware of how issues of oppression, discrimination,
and the phobias get in the way of us living our fullest, most authentic, and joyful selves. I work to bring
not only this empathic awareness and understanding, but also my humor, balance, skill, and compassion,
to each encounter.
Over the past few years, I have also developed a strong interest in the areas of polyamory, open
relationships, and consensual non-monogamy. These are relatively new issues for the wider culture to
deal with, and I regard the recent increased interest and focus on these relationship options as
representative of a desire amongst many to find new, more communally based ways of relating deeply to
others. I feel strongly that these options, and the people who are exploring them, need to be encouraged
and supported. I am very open to working with members of the poly and kin communities.
